TURN OF HISTORY. THE PATH TO JUSTICE FOR WAR VICTIMS IN UKRAINE

The conference is devoted to expert discussions on various aspects of transitional justice, including documentation and investigation of gross violations of human rights, establishment of historical truth, memorialisation and reparations.  The event will be held within the framework of the USAID Human Rights in Action Program, implemented by the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union

History of genocides in Ukraine: studying the experience and challenges of the present. Call for participants for the seminar

Since 2022, the UCHS, in cooperation and with funding from the Shoah Memorial (Paris), has been holding two-day research seminars for educators in Ukraine on topics related to the history and memory of genocides on the territory of Ukraine in the global context. The speakers at the seminar are Ukrainian and French scholars. The working language of the event is Ukrainian with simultaneous translation.

(No) Children’s Stories Exhibition in Lviv

On 22 November 2023, the exhibition exhibition (No) Children’s Stories will open to the public for several weeks at the Lviv Printing College of Ukrainian Academy of Printing. The exhibition will be guided by the college students  who were trained by the Ukrainian Centre for Holocaust Studies.

Projekt Museums: Rethinking. Experience exchange and networking of local cultural institutions

On 17-19 November 2023, a research and educational seminar will be held in Kyiv for Ukrainian museum workers, librarians, educators, and representatives of cultural institutions as part of the Museums: Rethinking project to share experiences and networking of local cultural institutions. The project is implemented by the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office and the Goethe-Institut.

(No) Children’s Stories Exhibition in Poltava

On 6 November 2023, the exhibition (No) Children’s Stories opened to visitors for several weeks at the Poltava Secondary School No. 38. The exhibition will be guided by students of the school, trained by the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies.

XIII Robert Kuwałek Scientific and Educational Seminar "The History of the Holocaust in Western Ukraine and Eastern Poland"

On October 22-27, 2023, the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies, together with the Polish educational organization Brama Grodzka (Lublin), will hold an annual seminar and educational trip "The History of the Holocaust in Western Ukraine and Eastern Poland'' for a group of history teachers from Ukraine. Bakhmut - the Face of the Genocide of 1942/2022" Exhibition of the National Historical Memorial Reserve “Babyn Yar”

On August 1, on the anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Bakhmut, the exhibition “Bakhmut: Faces of Genocide 1942/2022” will open in Kyiv. The murder of 3,000 civilians, most of them Jews, in January 1942 and the destruction of Bakhmut by the Russians, which has been going on for over a year in our time, are two crimes committed by the same totalitarian Nazi regime.

We invite you to join volunteer programs in Germany and Poland and take part in one of the projects. By helping as a volunteer in one of the non-governmental organizations in Poland or Germany, you will gain new experience, discover new opportunities and meet interesting people.

International Training on Holocaust Education – Entangled History as a perspective for non-formal education

Where and when: the training will take part on 7-14 of November in Polan.

Selection criteria: you work with teenagers and youth, your educational activities are connected with the Holocaust teaching, civic education or with the history projects. Publications in the frames of the “Protecting Memory” project

During the German occupation in 1941-1944 on the territory of present-day Ukraine more than 1 million Jews and 12.000 Romani people were killed in mass shootings. They were buried in numerous mass graves.
The “Protecting Memory” international project aims to regulate forgotten and neglected mass graves of murdered Jews and Romani, to create next to these places sites of memory and information about them in order to preserve memory about the victims for presence and for the future

Presentation of Robert Kuwalek’s book in Lviv

On the 4th of December 2018 Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies presented a new book in Lviv – the Ukrainian translation of the monograph by Robert Kuwalek “Death Camp in Bellec”. Among the participants were friends and colleagues of Robert Kuwalek, scholars, teachers, representatives of the local Jewish community. Iryna Sklokina (Center for Urban History of East Central Europe) moderated the event.

Teaching guide for the exhibition «Babyn Yar: Memory against History’s Background»

On August 20-21 the first working meeting took place in a new project about the creation of a teaching guide for the virtual exhibition « Babyn Yar: Memory against History’s Background » ( http://memory.kby.kiev.ua/ ) Researchers of the culture of memory in Ukraine, teachers and methodologists from Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities take part in the project.

Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies in cooperation with the Museum and Memorial “House of the Wannsee Conference” announces the call for participants in the educational course "Genocide of Jews in Europe: Historical Perspective and Approaches". The educational course will take place in May - November 2017 and will consist of a training seminar in Kiev on 26-28 May 2017 , a distance training course and a final trip to the Museum and Memorial “House of the Wannsee Conference” around September 2017.

Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies announces the educational seminar-school in Holocaust studies and teaching about the Holocaust

Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies (UCHS) in cooperation with Memorial "Yad Vashem" (Jerusalem) and under the support of the Eurasian Jewish Congress and the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine announce the call for participation in the educational summer school on Holocaust History in Ukraine and problems of teaching this subject in Ukrainian schools. The summer school is held for teachers of history and civics of Ukrainian secondary schools. Colleagues and teachers from Belarus and Moldova are welcome to participate as well.

Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies is glad to present the websites of the project "Protecting Memory"

The project "Protecting Memory" (starting in Ukraine in 2010) is dedicated to the still little-known chapter of Nazi policy of extermination: it investigates mass shootings of Jews in the occupied territories of Eastern Europe, which are in the darkness of oblivion. The project, however, is dedicated to marking and protecting evidences of these crimes - the mass graves in Ukraine, which became the last resting place for more than a million Jews - making them worthy memorial places. 

Virtual exhibition «Babyn Yar: Memory against History’s Background»

From now on, the website of the Public Committee for commemorating of Babyn Yar victims offers the virtual exhibition «Babyn Yar: Memory against History’s Background». The virtual exhibition is created based on the materials of the multimedia exhibition, which was conducted in the Kyiv History Museum from September 15 to November 27, 2016, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy. The exhibition is available in Ukrainian and in English, is completely interactive, and is supplemented with a video guide in Ukrainian

Cooperation Memorandum Between centers for Holocaust studies in Poland and Ukraine

On 22 January 2014 in Krakow a signing of Cooperation Memorandum between Center for Holocaust Studies at Jagiellonian Universtiy in Krakow and Kyiv based Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies took place. It happened during an international conference “Mass Murder Sites: Research and Commemoration” organized by IHRA.
