IN MEMORIAM of Larysa Volovyk (1939-2023)
On July 14, 2023, Larysa Faliivna Volovyk, Merited Culture Worker of Ukraine, founder of the first Kharkiv Holocaust Museum in Ukraine, passed away.
Her main work was focused on preserving the memory of the Nazi genocide against the Jews of Ukraine during World War II. In 1996, she founded the first non-governmental Holocaust museum in Ukraine in Kharkiv and was its permanent director. For almost thirty years she headed the Righteous Among the Nations Program. According to the documents she prepared, about 90 Kharkiv residents were awarded the honorary title of Righteous Among the Nations of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies has been cooperating with Ms. Larysa for many years in the field of preserving and honoring the memory of Holocaust victims in Ukraine.
She was awarded the title of Merited Culture Worker of Ukraine, the Honorary Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Acknowledgment of the Prime Minister of Ukraine (twice), the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, and the Certificates of Honor of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration (twice) and so many others.
A memorial service for Larysa Volovyk took place on July 16 at the cemetery in Herzliya, Israel.

International scientific and methodological seminar “History of genocides in Ukraine: study of experience and contemporary challenges”
Starting in 2022, the UCHS, in cooperation and with funding from the Shoah Memorial (Paris), has been conducting scientific seminars for educators in Ukraine on topics related to the history and memory of genocides on the territory of Ukraine in the global context. The speakers at the seminar are Ukrainian and French scholars. The working languages of the event are Ukrainian and French with simultaneous translation.

The UCHS continues to work on the creation of an online course Methodology of Teaching about the History of the Holocaust in Secondary School. The authors of this course are well-known Ukrainian history teachers, history teaching methodologists, and scholars.
