Research Team Meeting for the Project “One Stone - One Life: 80 Stumbling Stones for Kyiv”

insidethegatesOn 13 December 2025, teachers and students involved in the memorial project will gather in Kyiv. These research teams are preparing materials, testimonies, and documents for the installation of new Stumbling Stones in the capital in 2026.

The project “One Stone – One Life: 80 Stumbling Stones for Kyiv” was launched in 2021 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy. It commemorates people who were killed or persecuted by the Nazi regime between 1941 and 1943, most of them members of Kyiv’s Jewish community. The Kyiv component of the project is both commemorative and educational: pupils, students, civic activists, and independent researchers study individual biographies, prepare and participate in the installation ceremonies, and organise educational activities related to the history and memorialisation of Babyn Yar.

The project aims to integrate the memory of Kyiv residents who were killed or suffered under Nazi persecution into the city’s everyday public space.

The project is implemented by the Ukrainian Centre for Holocaust Studies at the initiative of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine and with the support of the Kyiv City State Administration.
