The Zone of Interest by Jonathan Glazer
In February 2024, the British director Jonathan Glazer's feature film Zone of Interest was released in Ukraine. The film describes the horrors of the Holocaust without ever showing it.
Jonathan Glazer's film Zone of Interest tells the story of the idyllic life of the family of the commandant of the Nazi death camp Auschwitz, which the occupiers created in Poland. His "office" is located just outside the fence of his garden; the screams of the prisoners and the noise of the incinerators are constantly heard from there. Why is this difficult film important for Ukrainians to see?
The film is tough. In particular, because Ukrainians are suffering from the enemy - the russians. The invaders behave in such a way that parallels with the crimes of National Socialism and Communism are fiercely evoked.
