Learning from the Past, Acting for the Future - Teaching about the Holocaust and Human Rights
On 29–31 October 2025, the seminar-school Learning from the Past – Acting for the Future on the History of the Holocaust and Human Rights was held in Kyiv.
Over three days, participants from 12 regions of Ukraine explored themes of memory, humanity, and responsibility, discussed modern teaching methods, and developed their own educational tools.
📃 The programme addressed the Ukrainian and European contexts of the Holocaust, contemporary manifestations of antisemitism, the challenges of denial and distortion, and educational strategies to counter these phenomena. Particular attention was given to interdisciplinary approaches, trauma-sensitive teaching, and action plans within the Olga Lengyel Institute’s Impact Grants programme.
Participants also reflected on commemorating the crimes of totalitarian regimes and on shifting perceptions of genocide in the context of modern warfare. The school concluded with an interactive tour of Babyn Yar, offering an opportunity to engage with history through dialogue, questions, and personal impressions.
Here’s some feedback from the seminar, shared in Ukrainian. https://holocaust.kyiv.ua/News/details/vchit_minmab_2025
