Ukrainian Version of Anne Frank Guide

The Dutch multi-lingual Anne Frank Webguide, which is an interactive educational complex comprising information on the history of Anne Frank and the national wartime history of the countries-participants of the project as well as a number of activities for students' independent work, will be launched in Ukrainian. The original Dutch version of the webguide appeared in 2003 as an initiative of Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and under partial support of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands Kingdom. In March 2005 seven more countries joined to the project, among them Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Great Britain, Czech, and the USA. In February 2008 Ukraine also joined the project. In frames of the second stage of the project "Tolerance and Holocaust Education in Ukraine (2005-2007)" under the support of Anne Frank House and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport of the Netherlands Kingdom Ukrainian Centre for Holocaust Studies undertook to translate into Ukrainian the five existing chapters on Anne Frank history and to create five more chapters covering the Holocaust on Ukrainian lands. The aim of this resource is to make secondary school students aware of the history of Anne Frank and her diary and of the Holocaust history in their motherland by means of the modern multi-media. Chapters on the Holocaust in Ukraine include information on history and culture of Ukrainian Jews before WWII, history of anti-Semitism in Ukraine, tragic events of the Holocaust on Ukrainian lands, collaboration and rescue by the local population, resistance of the Jews to the "final solution" politics. All materials are accompanied with photo and video illustrations. It is noteworthy that the webguide also gives an opportunity to students to create their own projects and presentations basing on the website sources for further discussion in a classroom. Posing questions to the materials make students reflect upon the little-known history of their own land and the results of ethnic intolerance in any form.
