Discussion Platform "Our Victory: Ukraine in the Second World War."
The War Museum hosted a meeting of the discussion platform Our Victory: Ukraine in the Second World War alongside the presentation of the popular science publication Ukraine in the Second World War: War Calendar as part of the museum campaign Our Victory, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe and the victory over Nazism.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, a global conflict involving more than 60 countries, including all the great powers of the time. The Second World War shaped the future of Europe and humanity for decades. Russia’s full-scale invasion has prompted Ukrainian society to fundamentally rethink the war’s legacy, shifting from a Soviet-centric interpretation to a distinctly Ukrainian perspective on this historical conflict.
Director General of the War Museum Yurii Savchuk will introduce participants to the new museum exhibition Our Victory and present the popular science publication Ukraine in the Second World War: War Calendar.
Speakers:
Volodymyr Viatrovych, Yaroslav Hrytsak, Oleksandr Lysenko, Ivan Patryliak, Olena Stiazhkina – leading historians, professors, and public figures.
Participants:
Oleksandr Alfiorov, Akim Halimov, Anton Drobovych, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Vladlen Marayev, Vitalii Nakhmanovych – historians, journalists, researchers, and media professionals.
Topics:
- - Ukraine’s memory of the end of World War II.
- - Victory or occupation: the war’s role in public discourse.
- - Changes in WWII commemoration due to Russia’s ongoing aggression.
