Invisible. Resilience: The Past and Present of the Roma
On 2 August 2025, International Roma Genocide Remembrance Day, the exhibition Invisible. Resilience: The Past and Present of the Roma opened at the Living Memory Exhibition Centre of the Babyn Yar National Memorial Museum.
The project gives voice to the Roma community, presenting identity as a form of resistance — from the Nazi genocide to participation in the defence of Ukraine today.
The exhibition covers three sections:
▪️The past — documents, photos and testimonies about the persecution of Roma
▪️The present — portraits of soldiers, activists and artists
▪️Art — works by contemporary artists and animations about trauma and resilience
Mykhailo Tiaglyy, Research associate at UCHS: “Roma voices were invisible. Exhibitions like this allow them to be heard with dignity — as part of the Ukrainian narrative.”
The exhibition was created by [ARKA – Agency for the Advocacy of Roma Culture] in partnership with the Babyn Yar National Memorial and the [Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies]. The project was implemented with the support of the [German Embassy in Kyiv / Deutsche Botschaft Kyjiw]and the [Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance].
Exhibition curators: Natalia Tomenko, Chinara Medzhydova, Volodymyr Yakovenko
Historical consultant: Mykhailo Tiaglyy
Dates: 2 August – 7 September 2025
