On 18-20 June 2019 opening ceremonies took place in six sites of memory out of 17 which are planned to be built in 13 localities within the “Protecting memory” project.
The project has been financed by the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany since 2019 and it has an aim to show forgotten history of Jewish and Romani genocides in Ukraine as well as to protect the graves of the victims.
On 18-19 of June 2019 three opening ceremonies took place in three localities where Romani people were killed - Ivanopil town, Kalynivka village and Divoshyn village in Zhytomyr region.
On the 20th of June in the presence of the descendants of the Holocaust survivors the opening ceremony of the information steles took place in Kolodianka village and Liubar town. These were the places where mass killings of Jews occurred during the war.
The following opening ceremonies in nine other localities in eleven sites of memory dedicated to the memory of Jewish victims will be held in September 2019.
