History of genocides in Ukraine: studying the experience and challenges of the present. Seminar in Kyiv
On 12-13 June, a research and methodological French-Ukrainian seminar History of genocides in Ukraine: studying the experience and challenges of the present was held in Kyiv. It was organised by the Shoah Memorial (Paris) and the Ukrainian Centre for Holocaust Studies (Kyiv) with the support of the Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies.
More than twenty participants from Kyiv, Volyn, Cherkasy, Khmelnytsky, Dnipro, Rivne, and Kirovohrad regions gathered at the Kuras Institute and managed to hold a series of vivid discussions and several workshops that covered topics related to the history and memory of the Holocaust and other genocides on the territory of Ukraine in the global context, as well as methodological and ethical features of teaching about these topics.
Of course, the discussions were not complete without comparing the wars and genocides of the past with the current war, the full-scale invasion and crimes of the russian occupiers in Ukraine.
We are sincerely grateful for this seminar to all the participants, to the French lecturers (who travelled a long way to speak to Ukrainian educators), to the Ukrainian lecturers and to Kuras Institute for their support.
