Babi Yar: History and Memory of a Massacre: Materials of the international scholarly conference 24-25 October 2011, Kyiv
Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies and “Babi Yar” Civic Committee published under the support of the French Embassy in Ukraine the collection of materials of the international scholarly conference “Babi Yar: History and Memory of a Massacre”, held in Kyiv on 24-25 October 2011.
The site of Babi Yar in Kyiv still remains a mournful symbol of the Nazi genocide and the following Soviet manipulations with memory as well as a telling example of memory about the war in Ukrainian society today.
The book published is a collection of materials aiming at analysis of historical aspects of the persecution policies against various population groups (Jews, Roma, activists of Ukrainian national movement, Soviet POWs and civil citizens) who found their mass grave at the site of Babi Yar as well as at discussion of post-war and modern issues of commemoration of the victims in the context of ambiguous attitude to past on behalf of different parts within the Ukrainian society.
