80th Anniversary of Victory over Nazism: What Role Does the Memory of World War II Play in Ukraine

On 6 May 2025, a public discussion 80th Anniversary of the Victory over Nazism: What Role Does the Memory of the Second World War Play in Modern Ukraine? took place at the press centre of the Ukraine Crisis Media Center. The event was organised by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.

Historians explored key questions, including:
- The history of the Second World War and its significance for Ukraine
- The role of World War II memory in shaping modern Ukraine
- Whether russia’s current war against Ukraine is overshadowing remembrance of World War II events
- The concept of ‘Vaccination by the Second World War’—did it ever exist?
- The decline of the Yalta-Potsdam system of international relations—was it dismantled, and if so, when?

From February 9 to 12, Paris hosted the scholarly and methodological seminar Holocaust as a Starting Point, organized by the Shoah Memorial in cooperation with the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies. The program featured lectures, workshops, museum practice, and excursions.
