History of the Holocaust in Ukraine: Research, Education, Commemoration. Educational seminar-school.
The annual Franco-Ukrainian academic seminar, titled History of the Holocaust in Ukraine: Research, Education, Commemoration, has become a tradition. In 2025, the event took place from June 27 to 29, organized by the Shoah Memorial (Paris) and the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies (Kyiv), bringing together 24 educators from Kyiv, Odesa, and surrounding regions.
This year’s program lasted three days and included lectures, discussions, and workshops. Ukrainian and French experts addressed the history of the Holocaust and other genocides in Ukraine, as well as teaching methodologies. Special attention was given to terminology and the comparative study of crimes against humanity.
A key component was the museum-focused segment: participants engaged with representatives of the Holodomor Museum (Kyiv), the “Territory of Terror” Museum (Lviv), and the “Territory of Memory” Museum (Odesa), and concluded with a thematic visit to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.
Discussions also reflected on the current war - russia’s full-scale invasion and the crimes committed on Ukrainian territory.
