Public Discussion: “The Call: Rethinking Ukrainian Jewry”

insidethegatesOn April 10, 2026, a discussion was held at the Sens bookstore in Kyiv, organized by Hromadske Radio in partnership with UNESCO Ukraine. The event explored the history of Ukrainian-Jewish relations, cultural influences, shared traumas, and identity formation.

Historian Dr. Anatolii Podolskyi, Director of the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies, spoke about the struggle in the 1990s to affirm the identity of “Ukrainian Jews.” Art critic Diana Klochko emphasized the role of Jewish artists in shaping Ukrainian cultural institutions, citing Abram Manevich as a co-founder of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts.

The discussion was moderated by Yelyzaveta Tsarehradska of Hromadske Radio and held within the project Widerstand. Resistance - a podcast about Ukrainian Jews who changed the world.
