One Stone - One Life: 80 Stumbling Stones for Kyiv. Cleaning the Stumbling Stones

insidethegatesOn June 11, 2026, passersby noticed two Stumbling Stones shining brighter, with fresh yellow flowers nearby. A group of four students, researchers, and activists had cleaned them.

The Stone for Heorhii Brif, located near the State Polytechnic Museum, had been temporarily removed during pipeline repairs but is now reinstalled. Thanks to Director Nataliia Pysarevska and her team, it was placed in a safer location to avoid future dismantling.

Heorhii Brif’s biography was researched in 2020-2021 by lecturer Neliia Hryshchenko and her students. Today, she has formed a new student team that cares for his Stone and has begun studying the life of his wife, Rosalia.

The group also visited the Stone for Petro Chetverikov, discussed his story, and met with Oleksandra from the library PR team, who helped organize its installation in September 2025. We are grateful to the Shevchenko Children’s Library for their support.

If you wish to join future cleanings or become a Stone caretaker, please contact us and join the community channel.

The project is initiated by [the Embassy of Germany in Kyiv] and implemented by the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies in cooperation with [the Educational Center Space of Tolerance] and the Kyiv City State Administration.
