Invisible. Resilience: The Past and Present of the Roma

insidethegatesOn 2 August 2025, International Roma Genocide Remembrance Day, the exhibition Invisible. Resilience: The Past and Present of the Roma opened at the Living Memory Exhibition Centre of the Babyn Yar National Memorial Museum.

The project gives voice to the Roma community, presenting identity as a form of resistance — from the Nazi genocide to participation in the defence of Ukraine today.

The exhibition covers three sections:

▪️The past — documents, photos and testimonies about the persecution of Roma

▪️The present — portraits of soldiers, activists and artists

▪️Art — works by contemporary artists and animations about trauma and resilience

Mykhailo Tiaglyy, Research associate at UCHS: “Roma voices were invisible. Exhibitions like this allow them to be heard with dignity — as part of the Ukrainian narrative.
