The Formation of Holocaust Scholarly Discourse in European Nations

insidethegatesOn December 16, 2025, the State Institution Institute of World History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine held the International Scientific Conference The Formation of Holocaust Scholarly Discourse in European Nations.

The conference focused on key themes:

1. The Holocaust phenomenon and its place in world history

2. Research challenges in the USSR and post-Soviet states

3. Formation of modern scholarly and socio-political Holocaust discourse in Western Europe

4. Current issues of Holocaust studies in Ukraine and globally

Among the speakers was Anatolii Podolskyi, PhD and Director of the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies, who presented on Research and Teaching of Holocaust History in Ukraine: Challenges During the Current War. His talk highlighted new commemorative practices and the importance of preserving memory amid russia’s ongoing aggression.

Other distinguished Ukrainian historians also contributed, including Professors Andrii Kudriachenko, Oleksandr Lysenko, Ihor Sribniak, and others.
