Stumbling Stone Unveiled in Honor of Liia Bubnova

On June 3, 2026, Kyiv’s 16th Stumbling Stone was installed on Bulvarno-Kudriavska Street in honor of Liia Bubnova - a Kyiv pharmacist, mother, wife, and Jewish woman who perished in Babyn Yar in 1941. The installation is part of the project One Stone – One Life. 80 Stumbling Stones for Kyiv, initiated by the German Embassy in Kyiv and implemented by the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies in cooperation with the Kyiv City State Administration

"I look forward to the day when I lose count of how many Stumbling Stones are installed in Kyiv and across Ukraine, and it simply becomes a widespread practice," said Anatolii Podolskyi, Director of the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies.

"Preserving the memory of Holocaust victims... remains our shared moral duty. That is why such memorial sites are of great importance," added Lisa Heike, Head of the Culture Department at the German Embassy in Kyiv.

Despite the rain, the event brought together community members and partners. Special thanks go to the Dominion.School team (led by Iryna Hladchenko) for researching Liia Bubnova's biography, the Shevchenkivskyi District Administration for their cooperation, and local road maintenance crews for the seamless installation of the stone.

Learning from the Past - Acting for the Future. Training on Holocaust History and Human Rights. Seminar in Lithuania

The Olga Lengyel Institute (TOLI), together with the International Commission in Lithuania and the Jewish Community of Lithuania, held a five‑day seminar in Vilnius: “Learning from the Past – Acting for the Future.” The program brought together educators from across Lithuania, Ukraine, and Poland to deepen their understanding of the Holocaust, antisemitism, human rights, and effective teaching practices.

On June 11, 2026, passersby noticed two Stumbling Stones shining brighter, with fresh yellow flowers nearby. A group of four students, researchers, and activists had cleaned them.

Meeting of the Research Teams for the "One Stone, One Life" Project

On June 9, 2026, the Maidan Museum's Information and Exhibition Center in Kyiv hosted the final meeting of the research teams for the international project One Stone, One Life: 80 Stumbling Stones for Kyiv. Six teams of young researchers gathered to review their work since October, joined by speakers Oleksandr Voroniuk, Nadiia Ufimtseva, and Anatolii Podolskyi.
